Hey, Y’all -
Wellness Wednesday is now Thriving Thursday! So I’m a day late on this email on account of some travel back home from Louisiana where I attended an AMAZING wedding of a close family friend and also got to catch up with the fam + many of my close amigos. Most importantly, the wedding food was on point and fairly clean, with fresh seafood (shrimp, crab), steak, short-rib, paella, etc. And of course ice cream that was sandwiched in between two freshly baked cookies. Unfortunately for me, these were gluten filled, so I just ate the ice cream. Naughty, I know. 😳
That got me thinking about sharing my most recent GEM of a discovery… High Protein, ZERO sugar ICE CREAM! 🍨
What if I told you that you could eat ice cream every day and still feel great about it? Well, buckle up because I recently received a Ninja Creami (thanks to a very generous friend), and I’ve been on a mission to create an ice cream that’s packed with protein, low in sugar, and full of ingredients that support weight loss and longevity.
Chocolate Truffle Ice Cream That’s Actually Good for You
- 20g protein.
- 0 sugar.
- 100 calories for a whole pint
- Sound too good to be true? Trust me, it’s not.
Recipe: Chocolate Truffle Ice Cream 🍨
Here’s my go-to recipe that checks all the boxes: Watch the Video Here
- Blend 1 scoop of Iconic Chocolate Truffle Protein Powder (or your favorite grass fed or plant protein powder) with 12oz water.
- Add organic monkfruit liquid drops to sweeten, if needed.
- Pour the mix into a Ninja pint jar (add more water if you need to reach the minimum freeze line).
- Freeze for 24 hours.
- Use the Ninja Creami machine, gelato setting. Re-spin once, add a splash of water, then re-spin again (total of 2 re-spins - this part is KEY).
- Add organic cacao nibs, then use the "mix-in" setting.
- Enjoy & devour guilt-free!
You can also get crazy with frozen fruits like organic blueberries for added flavor and nutrition. Why blueberries? They’re packed with antioxidants and have a low glycemic index, meaning they won’t spike your blood sugar (great for both weight loss and longevity).
Other Mix-In Ingredients for a Boost of Nutrition:
- Organic Strawberries: High in Vitamin C and antioxidants.
- Organic Raspberries: Low in sugar but high in fiber and phytonutrients.
- 70% Cacao Dark Chocolate (ideally low sugar)
- Raw Organic Almonds or Walnuts: Healthy fats, protein, and that extra bit of crunch.
Why High Protein, Low Sugar?
Let’s face it: Most ice cream options out there are loaded with sugar and unnecessary junk that won’t help your health goals. By opting for a high-protein, low-sugar version, you’re promoting satiety (feeling full), building lean muscle, and keeping your blood sugar steady—all while enjoying a delicious treat.
Other Ice Cream Brands That Fit the Bill
There are some great high-protein, low-sugar ice cream brands out there, but they’re few and far between. Here are a couple to check out:
- Halo Top: Offers lower-calorie, higher-protein options with around 15-20g of protein per pint.
- Enlightened: Known for its low-calorie ice cream with decent protein content and less sugar than traditional brands.
- *Note that both brands contain dairy ingredients are not marked as grass fed, & contain sugar alcohols that can cause gastrointestinal distress. 💨
But if you’re a stickler for clean ingredients and want to control what goes into your body (like me), nothing beats making your own. Many commercial “healthy” ice creams sneak in ingredients like artificial sweeteners, preservatives, and sugar alcohols that may disrupt your gut health and impact weight loss.
What to Look For on the Nutrition Facts Panel
When shopping for healthy ice cream, check for these key factors:
- Protein Content: Aim for at least 10g of protein per serving.
- Sugar Content: Look for less than 6g of sugar per serving. If the sweetener is monk fruit or stevia, you’re on the right track.
- Clean Ingredients: Avoid artificial flavors, preservatives, and long ingredient lists. Look for ice cream made with whole foods like grass fed milk proteins, nuts, fruits, and natural sweeteners like monkfruit & stevia (both directly derived from plants).
Final Scoop
When it comes to finding ice cream that supports your weight loss and longevity goals, making it yourself is truly the way to go. Plus, with an ice cream machine in your kitchen arsenal (or at a friend’s casa!), you’ll have a blast experimenting with flavors and keeping things fun (and healthy!).
